Our short series concludes with Howard's top game as a Terrapin.

#1: Maryland 75, Charleston 74

November 10, 2010

You guys knew it was coming. In fact, some of you guessed it when the series started. But that doesn't make it any less sweet. It seems fitting that for Pe'Shon Howard, a serviceable player whose career never quite put itself together, his most memorable game with Maryland was just the second one he played.

Maryland opened up Howard's freshman season with an easy 105-76 win over visiting Seattle, and the point guard contributed with five points, eight assists, three steals and three rebounds. Next up? The College of Charleston, led by head coach Bobby Cremins and star shooting guard Andrew Goudelock, serving as a surprise out-of-conference challenge for the Jordan Williams-led Terps.

As we've talked about throughout the series, even in his best games Howard was never the star, at least not by the numbers. In this case, that honor would undoubtedly go to Williams, who scored 26 points with 15 rebounds (on the other end, Goudelock had 27 with ten).

Fun fact: I was at this game, and can quite clearly remember thinking that with a point guard as solid as Howard, the Terrapins could so some serious damage. He shot six of seven from the floor, had 14 points with four assists and two steals, and even made a three-pointer.

With nine seconds left in the game and the Terps trailing by one, Pe'Shon got the ball near the Maryland bench. What happened next was a thing of beauty: cross to the left, spin to the right, step back and fadeaway for the win.

Our series on the former point guard's top games continues with another out-of-conference performance.

A few days ago, we looked at Pe'Shon Howard's game against Albany as his third-best performance as a Terrapin. Today, we move on to number two.

#2: Maryland 91, LIU Brooklyn 74

November 16, 2012

Ah, November 2012. It seems like just last year. Maryland was undefeated at home, had all the promise in the world with Alex Len and a quickly burgeoning Dez Wells, and even had some solid point guard play in Pe'Shon Howard. LIU Brooklyn was the Terps' third game of the season, and after struggling in the opener against Kentucky, MVPe' had a seven-assist outing against Morehead State.

LIU Brooklyn was one of the few tournaments teams Maryland played last season - they lost in the First Four to James Madison. Led by a trio of Texans (Julian Boyd, Brandon Thompson and Jason Brickman) and two grads from local school Springbrook (Jamal Olasawere and C.J. Garner), the Blackbirds were looking to set their season right after two straight losses to open it up. Then Pe'Shon happened.

Howard, again, was not the leading scorer for the Terps - as far as I can tell, that never happened. That distinction fell to Seth Allen, who scored 19 points and made five of six field goals. Also performing admirably were Alex Len (18 points, seven rebounds, four blocks) and Dez Wells (15 points, eight rebounds, five assists).

But perhaps most impressive was Pe'Shon, who had undoubtedly the best game of his final Terrapin campaign. Seven points, hitting a three-pointer and all four free throw attempts, with a career-high 13 assists (second-highest? eight) and seven rebounds.

Looking back at Pe'Shon's career, I think it's a funny sort of coincidence that one of his best games as a Terrapin was overshadowed by another guard - and the one that will replace him at that. MVPe' certainly had his ups and downs as a Terrapin, but even the ups were outdone by someone else within that game. There was a whole lot of promise for his career, as we'll see with the number one selection, and while he was rarely just bad (I think it would be best if we all forgot about the UNC game), the games when he was truly good were never quite game-defining (in large part due to the blowout nature of most of them). That, of course, excludes the number one selection, which we'll have for you soon.

Testudo Times takes a look back at Pe'Shon Howard's best moments as a Terp.

After Molly's great five-part series on Alex Len's best games as a Terrapin, we thought it would be a good idea to look at the other departing Terps. First up, transferring point guard Pe'Shon Howard.

#3: Maryland 83, Albany 72

December 28, 2011

Known forever as the "Stoglin Year", the 2011 Terps finished at around .500, but not before a hot start that gave them a 7-3 start in conference play. The Terps had not yet won a game by double-digits, and they welcomed America East foe Albany and their 7-5 record to the Comcast Center.

The game was perhaps most notable as Alex Len's Maryland debut, after sitting out the first ten games of the year due to NCAA requirements. Len scored 14 with eight rebounds and three blocks, Stoglin had 22 points, and some guy on Albany named Logan Aronhalt had 13 points with six rebounds and made two three point attempts.

Most notably, for our purposes, it was Pe'Shon Howard's second game back from injury. After a less-than-stellar performance against Radford, the point guard responded well, with 11 points, eight assists, and six rebounds. His struggles were still there - he turned the ball over six times and had three fouls, but he helped lead the Terps to an 83-72 victory (at the time tied for their largest of the season).

Howard looked comfortable throughout the game running the point, and had another hockey assists, where the player he passed to immediately passed it off for an assist. Even better was his shooting - notoriously shaky throughout his Maryland career, he made all three of his field goals (including one-for-one on three pointers) and all four free throw attempts.

Here are the highlights from the game. In it you can see one great drive, a three-pointer and four assists from Howard, including one kinda sorta alley-oop to Nick Faust.
