Maryland has hired Marcus Berry as its new director of recruiting, according a report by 247 Sports.

He previously served in the recruiting departments at Rutgers, North Carolina and Illinois. He was the Scarlet Knights' director of player personnel last season.

Berry has been in the college game since 2009, when North Carolina brought him on as director of player personnel. He served there until February 2013, when he accepted the same position at Illinois. He became Rutgers' director of player personnel in February 2015. Kyle Flood, who hired him at Rutgers, was fired after the season.

Berry has local ties, as he spent 11 years as a coach and teacher at Friendly High School in Fort Washington, Maryland. He played football at West Virginia and graduated with a degree in sports management in 1990. He completed personnel and scouting internships with the Green Bay Packers in 2003 and the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2007.

Berry's Twitter location now reads: "University of Maryland."
