Maryland football director of player personnel Cory Robinson is leaving the program to become Toledo's new cornerbacks coach, SI's Thayer Evans is reporting.
Robinson joined Maryland last July, after he had been serving as the defensive backs coach at the IMG Academy in Florida. He has a strong recruiting reputation, and that was his full focus in his one season at Maryland. He spent 2014 as the assistant head coach at Saint Frances High School and had, before that, worked at Calvert Hall High School from 2009 to 2013.
The Rockets earlier this month promoted offensive coordinator Jason Candle to be Matt Campbell's replacement as head coach. Campbell left to become the head coach at Iowa State after the season.
Maryland had been recruiting IMG's Rahshaun Smith, the No. 2 inside linebacker in the 2016 class, before Smith abruptly announced on Dec. 20 that Maryland was no longer in his top 4 due to "recent staff changes." Smith had previously said Robinson is a "father figure" to him.
