High School Highlights:

How'd He Get to College Park?

Zach initially chose to play his college ball for Mike Locksley at the University of New Mexico over offers from Illinois, Buffalo, Stony Brook, and Towson.  Zach had a pretty productive Freshman season for the Lobos, playing in 9 games and starting in 8.  However, when Locksley was let go at UNM and made the move to UMD, Dancel followed suit.  Subsequently, he had to take a redshirt his Sophomore season.

Profiling the entire team

After redshirting his Sophomore season, Zach was looking to break into the starting lineup as a defensive back.  He had a shot as the season prepared to start, but ultimately ended up behind Anthony Nixon on the depth chart.  Zach saw action every game on special teams.  Is majoring in business.

Nickname:

Last year we went with "Hold me closer tiny" Dancel.  I guess that's an Elton John song?  At least that's what Google tells me.  I'm guessing Todd came up with that nickname.  I'm gonna go with "Don't you know I'm loco" Dancel.

Career Highlight:

Two solo tackles against Wake Forest in 2013.

Dream Season:

Beats out Anthony Nixon for the starting job

2014 Prospectus:

Zach again appears to be behind Anthony Nixon on the depth chart going into the season.  But if for some reason Nixon doesn't step up to the plate, you gotta assume that Dancel is primed to step into the minutes. Dancel was talked about as a possible breakout candidate this Spring, so continued progression should gain him even more time on the field this season.  The Terps need a ball hawk at the DB spots, so if Zach can somehow develop a nose for the ball, he may garner some game time.
