Cornerback Antwaine Richardson, an early enrollee at Maryland, has officially joined the school's football program on National Signing Day.
Richardson is rated three stars on the 247Sports Composite, and he has an interesting backstory. Ranked as the No. 83 cornerback in the 2016 class and the No. 122 player in Florida, Richardson was initially a Michigan commit, scooped up at one of Jim Harbaugh's vaunted southern satellite camps. While he was the Wolverines' defensive coordinator, Maryland head coach DJ Durkin recruited Richardson to Ann Arbor.
But Harbaugh's interest apparently grew lesser over time, and Durkin was able to cash in on a longstanding relationship. The Terps have a lot of cornerbacks on their roster – likely 10 or 11 on scholarship next season – but not much experience, and Richardson should have a chance to compete for relatively quick playing time over the next two seasons.
Richardson is one of three cornerback commits in the class, joining fellow three-stars Travon Stott and Elisha Daniels.
