Florida running back LaDerrien Wilson followed his January commitment to Maryland by officially signing with the Terrapins on National Signing Day.
Wilson was the first in what became a long line of Florida commitments for DJ Durkin's staff leading up to signing day. He is rated three stars on the 247Sports Composite, the No. 71 running back in the 2016 class and the No. 151 player in talent-laden Florida. Based on his game film, Wilson is a bruising back with a healthy jolt of athleticism, too.
Wilson joins a new and somewhat exciting-looking Maryland backfield for 2015. With presumptive starter Wes Brown suspended for reportedly most of the season, the Terps figure to lean heavily on sophomore lightning bolt Ty Johnson and Virginia Tech transfer senior Trey Edmunds. But behind them, Maryland still needs options, and Wilson is one of a handful of new ones. He joints Maryland products Lorenzo Harrison and Jake Funk in the 2016 class.
It's hard to imagine all three of Wilson, Funk and Harrison being active for the next season. At least one, and conceivably two or all three, will keep a redshirt while Johnson, Edmunds and returning transfer Jacquille Veii get plenty of work.
Also, because the Internet is cool, here's video of Wilson as a seventh-grader.
He looked like a Terrapin even back then.
