College basketball bracketology: Maryland holds steady as a No. 3 seed despite loss to Purdue

Maryland lost its only game last week on the road to Purdue, but its NCAA Tournament seed held steady in most projections.

Indiana clinched the overall Big Ten title Tuesday evening, defeating a reeling Iowa team on the road. With Iowa's loss, Maryland can now clinch a double-bye with a win over Illinois or Indiana this week. In terms of NCAA seeding, despite the Terps' loss to Purdue last week, Maryland remained a No. 3 seed in most bracket projections. If Maryland can defeat Illinois, it'll probably be no worse than a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Maryland can still improve their seeding if they win out and win a few games in the B1G Tournament. But even if Maryland defeated Illinois, Indiana and then won the B1G tourney, the highest seed they could probably receive would be a No. 2 seed.

According to Bracket Matrix, Maryland's average seed is a 3.5. The highest any projection has Maryland is a No. 2 seed. The lowest is a No. 5 seed.

Here is Maryland's profile as of Tuesday evening:

Maryland Terrapins, 23-6, (11-5 B1G)

RPI ranking: No. 10

Ken Pomeroy ranking: No. 23

Coaches Poll: No. 12

AP Top 25:
No 14

Top-50 wins (via KenPom):
No. 14 Purdue (home)
No. 17 Iowa (home)
No. 27 Wisconsin (road)
No. 28 Connecticut (neutral)
No. 48 Michigan (home)

Loses outside top 50 (via KenPom):
No. 169 Minnesota (road)

Here are the latest projections from the major bracketology folks:

ESPN Bracketology - Joe Lunard
Maryland is a No. 3 seed in the East, where Villanova is the No. 1 seed. Indiana is currently the No. 5 seed in the region, but that was before its win over Iowa Tuesday evening, so they'll likely rise up and potentially out of Maryland's region.

CBS Sports Bracketology
Maryland remains a No. 3 seed in the South, where Oklahoma is the No. 1 seed.
