College basketball rankings, Week 12: Maryland ranked No. 8 in AP Top 25, No. 7 in Coaches Poll

The Terps fall in both polls after a close win against Northwestern and loss on the road to Michigan State last week.

The Maryland men's basketball team fell to No. 8 in this week's AP Poll and No. 7 in this week's Coaches Poll. The Terps had been No. 7 and No. 5, respectively, in last week's polling.

The Terps lost to Michigan State on Saturday night, 75-64. A few nights earlier, they needed overtime to beat Northwestern at home, adding up to an ultimately unimpressive week in Big Ten play. Maryland hosts Iowa on Thursday night in what has shaped up as one of the league's premier games of 2016.

There are five Big Ten teams ranked in both polls: Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State, Indiana and Purdue. Maryland is still winless against currently ranked teams, with losses to North Carolina and now Michigan State. Iowa visits on Thursday and presents another opportunity for Maryland to earn its first real quality win of the season.

North Carolina is the No. 1 team in the Coaches poll, after previous top ranker Oklahoma lost to Iowa State last Monday night, while Oklahoma held onto the No. 1 spot in this week's AP Poll.
