Prentiss Hubb commits to Notre Dame: Maryland misses out on key 2018 target

The Terps come up short for a top D.C. shooting guard.

Prentiss Hubb, the top 2018 recruit from Washington, D.C., committed to Notre Dame on Wednesday. The four-star shooting guard was high on Maryland’s target board for the next recruiting cycle.

For much of Hubb’s recruitment, the crystal ball predictions had pointed to him eventually becoming a Terp. Now Mark Turgeon and staff will have to focus their attention elsewhere, with the Gonzaga guard off the market.

247Sports has Hubb as the No. 5 shooting guard in his class and the No. 38 player overall, in addition to being the best recruit in D.C. Notre Dame was Hubb’s last visit prior to committing, as he took the trip to South Bend on April 30.

Mike Brey will have one of the best guards in the class on his roster, while Turgeon and company will have to look elsewhere in the Class of 2018 for shooting guard help. Brandon Slater, the top recruit from Virginia, is a prime candidate for more attention with Hubb off the board. Slater took an unofficial visit to College Park on April 20, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Turgeon starts ringing his line more often.
