The Maryland men's basketball program has offered a scholarship to 2018 center David McCormack of Norfolk, Va., his AAU team announced on Tuesday. McCormack is rated the No. 5 center in the country in his class by 247Sports, with offers from Miami, Georgetown, Baylor, Florida State, Auburn and Penn State. He still can't sign for nearly two years.
McCormack is listed at 6'9 and 290 pounds, so he's got aircraft-carrier size. That suggests he'll be at least a little bit raw when he finally enrolls in school, and Maryland, with one Alex Len-sized exception, has not had much success developing raw big men under Mark Turgeon. But McCormack is highly rated enough that perhaps he'll get to campus as more of a Diamond Stone than a Shaquille Cleare. It's hard to tell from the tape:

Scheduled through 2022, the Gavitt Tipoff Games will be played on consecutive days in the first full week of the college basketball season. The series will span eight years, with games played at home sites. Each BIG EAST team will participate a minimum of six times, while Big Ten programs will take part a minimum of four times. Teams from both conferences already meet in some traditional rivalry games, and those matchups will continue in the upcoming seasons.
