Darryl Morsell commits to Maryland basketball: Terps land local 4-star guard

The Terps’ 2017 class doubles in size.

Maryland basketball landed its second commit in the class of 2017 on Wednesday, as four-star guard Darryl Morsell announced his commitment to the Terps at a ceremony at his Baltimore high school.

Here’s video of the announcement, from InsideMdSports’ Facebook page:

Morsell, the No. 3 recruit in Maryland and the No. 5 combo guard in his class, per the 247Sports Composite, was deciding between Maryland and Notre Dame. He attends Mount St. Joseph’s High School in Baltimore, where he’s about to start his senior season.

Morsell had previously narrowed his list down to Maryland, Notre Dame, Villanova, Dayton and Virginia Tech in August, and then released a top three with Maryland, Notre Dame and Dayton in October. He cancelled a visit to Dayton days after attending Maryland Madness, though he said he could reschedule.

Morsell wasn’t always such a heralded recruit, as he popped up seemingly out of nowhere a few months ago. He joins center Bruno Fernando in Maryland’s 2017 class. His commitment brings Maryland’s class ranking from No. 69 to No. 29, though it’s silly to rank everyone this early in the cycle.
