All class of 2016 Maryland basketball commits nominated for McDonald's All-American game

The future looks promising for both the men's and women's teams.

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

All eight Maryland men and women's basketball commits were nominated to participate in the McDonald's All-American game, scheduled for March 30 in Chicago on ESPN.

The top 24 men and top 24 women will be selected to participate in the event live on a January 17 ESPNU special at 10:30 p.m.

Maryland commits Kaila Charles, Anthony Cowan, Kevin Huerter, Stephanie Jones, Sarah Myers, Destiny Slocum, Jenna Staiti, and Blair Watson were all nominated. You can check out the complete list here.

Three current Terrapins participated in last year's games: including Brianna Fraser, Kiah Gillespie and Diamond Stone (before he announced his commitment). Stone scored 14 points and swatted a pair of shots in 19 minutes. As teammates, Gillespie scored 9 points in 16 minutes and Fraser 10 in 15.

Melo Trimble scored 2 points and grabbed 2 rebounds as the lone Maryland commit to play in 2014.

Every men's national champion since 1978 has had at least one McDonald's All-American, with two exceptions: the 2002 Maryland Terrapins and the 2014 Connecticut Huskies.
