Maryland basketball recruiting roundup - All eyes on Wenyen Gabriel

Wenyen Gabriel seems to be the primary focus for the Terps, while 4-star forward Mario Kegler is next in line to visit College Park.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Maryland hosted 5-star forward Wenyen Gabriel last weekend for his first of five scheduled official visits.

Gabriel was seen at Stamp Student Union eating with Coach Turgeon and staff, and was in attendance for Maryland football's rain-delayed embarrassing beat-down loss to Bowling Green. Gabriel wasn't exposed to Maryland at its finest, but he claims to have enjoyed his visit, and the Terps staff followed up with a visit to him two days later.

He left Maryland without committing and instead added two more official visits to his schedule. He'll have two weeks since leaving Maryland to think about his trip to College Park before he takes visits to Kentucky, UConn, Providence and then Duke in four consecutive weekends.

While the primary focus is on Gabriel, the next recruit in line is 4-star forward Mario Kegler. He's set four of his allotted five official visits to Arizona State (9/18-20), Penn State (9/25-27), Maryland (10/15-17) and Indiana (10/23-25), and is deciding between LSU, Mississippi State, Baylor and UConn for his final spot (though it seems he's leaning toward Mississippi State). Kegler's scheduled visiting weekend suggests he'll be in attendance at Magic Maryland Madness on October 17th.

Tomorrow, the Terps will continue to pursue a class of 2017 recruit, 5-star big-man Mohamed Bamba. Kentucky, Indiana, Arizona, Temple, Villanova, UConn, Syracuse, Seton Hall, Providence, St. John's, Penn State and Rice are expected to join the Terps in watching the 6-foot-10 big-man who attends the same high school Jared Nickens attended.
