Maryland men’s golf has hired Wabash College head coach Tyler Schmutz to an assistant coaching position, the program announced Tuesday.
Schmutz, a Maryland native, joins the Terps after serving as head coach of Division III Wabash College for two seasons. While leading the Little Giants’ program, Schmutz helped raise the team’s Golfstat ranking 84 spots while breaking multiple scoring records and finishing as high as fourth in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Schmutz previously held an assistant position at Division II Regis University from 2017-19. He also played college golf at Parkland College and graduated from Gonzaga College High school in Washington, D.C.
Maryland men’s golf failed to win any competitions during the 2021 season, finishing as high as tied for fourth. The Terps finished 11th in the Big Ten Championship at the end of the season.
