Several Maryland athletes racked up weekly honors for their performances last week.
The men’s lacrosse team had the most honors of any program. Attacker Jared Bernhardt earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, faceoff specialist Justin Shockey won Big Ten Specialist of the Week, and attacker Eric Malever was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Bernhardt and Malever each had career-highs, with Bernhardt scoring six goals while Malever earned four points. Shockey won the award for the third time in his career after winning a season-high 18 faceoffs against Rutgers.
Defender Lizzie Colson from the women’s lacrosse team was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. Colson caused three turnovers and picked up five ground balls in a win against Johns Hopkins.
Shortstop Ben Cowles from the baseball team was named the Big Ten Player of the Week after a stellar weekend performance against Rutgers. He went 6-for-14 at the plate, hitting five home runs and driving in eight runs over a four-game set.
Finally, midfielder/defender Nick Richardson from the men’s soccer team was recognized on Top Drawer Soccer’s Team of the Week. Richardson had two assists in a 2-1 win at Michigan.

“They’re really good & they have great guard play. ... Their guards are just like super fun to watch too, so I feel like the longer they play, the better for women’s basketball. They’re just like really exciting to watch.”
