Maryland track & field head coach Andrew Valmon introduced the team’s 22 newcomers of men and women on Monday, who are set to make their debut in winter 2021 season.
Of the 10 men who join the team, nine are freshmen, four of which are Maryland natives, while one is a transfer. Mississippi State transfer Brian Evans Jr. holds the indoor personal records on 200m (21.86), 400m (47.52), 500m (1:04.87).
Both Roshaun Rowe and Kobe Simpson join the Terps from Jamaica after running together at Kingston College.
Other notable newcomers on the men’s side include freshman Jeff Kline, who was a three-time track & field team MVP at Fleetwood Area High School in Blandon, Pennsylvania, and Bel Air, Maryland, native Peter Capozzoli who holds the C. Milton Wright High School indoor school record in the 800m.
On the women’s side, eight of the 12 athletes are from in-state. Silver Spring, Maryland, native Madison Depry highlights the freshmen class after earning a place on the Montgomery County All-Decade Track & Field team in her senior campaign. Depry also won a Maryland State Championship in 2020 and finished first at the Francophone Nationals in Belgium in the 100m.
Other notables are Marisa DiGia from Harrington Park, New Jersey, who was named to the First Team All-North Jersey Track team in her senior season and also won her high school’s Female Athlete of the Year, as well as Kami Jo Hickson, who is a five-time state champion and four-time All-American for distance out of Turnersville, New Jersey.
