Three Maryland men’s lacrosse players — attackman Jared Bernhardt, midfielder Bubba Fairman, and defenseman Brett Maka — were selected to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-Big Ten team.
Bernhardt is coming off a prolific junior year campaign in which he scored 51 goals, the second-most in a single season by a Terp. He finished with 78 points, sixth-most all-time in the record books. Bernhardt has also been named to Inside Lacrosse’s Tewaaraton Award watch list for 2020 for his final season in College Park.
Fairman, a junior, received USILA All-American honors last season by excelling despite an increase of defensive attention coming his way. He recorded a career-high 42 points, which ranked fourth on the team.
Makar, a sophomore, put together a historic season as a freshman and became a breakout star. He became the second first-year player under head coach John Tillman to start multiple games (17) in his debut season. Makar came away with four caused turnovers and 25 ground balls in 2019.
The Terps enter the 2020 season with lofty expectations, currently ranked No. 4 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big Ten, according to both the US Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse preseason rankings. The season will open at home on Feb. 1, when Maryland hosts High Point.
