Maryland tennis took another step in its rise to relevance this week as the ITA ranked the doubles team of sophomore Eva Alexandrova and senior Millie Stretton No. 22 in the country.

The duo is the highest-ranked in the Big Ten. This preseason ranking comes after the team finished last season at No. 52. It’s the highest preseason ranking since Welma Luus and Ana Belzunce began the 2015 spring season at No. 15.

Alexandrova and Stretton went 16-2 last year in the No. 1 doubles spot for the Terps. Their season included an upset win over the country’s No. 4 duo from Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament.

Alexandrova also broke into the singles rankings for the 2018 preseason at No. 112 after finishing her freshman season as an All-Big Ten selection.

The Terps are scheduled to kick off the 2018 fall season Friday in College Park in the Bedford Cup.
