NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament 2017: Maryland enters bracket as No. 1 overall seed

It comes with a first-round bye and up to two home games.

NCAA Lacrosse: Women's Championship - Maryland Terrapins vs. North Carolina Tar Heels Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

After an undefeated season and Big Ten championship, Maryland enters the NCAA tournament as the top seeded team in the field. The Terps will play their first game against the winner of Towson and High Point in the second round.

Maryland’s top ranking means it won’t have to travel far for the tournament. The Terps will play up to two games at home and wouldn’t need to leave College Park until the Final Four in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Maryland was in the exact same situation last year, winning two games in College Park as the No. 1 seed before ultimately losing to North Carolina in the NCAA Championship game. The Terps journey to the final four would follow a similar path if they keep on winning.

Coming into the tournament, Maryland has already played and defeated nine tournament teams. The Terps combined to outscore Virginia, Boston College, James Madison, Penn, Northwestern, Syracuse, Florida, Penn State and North Carolina 161-96 in ten games.

Maryland’s first game will be on Sunday, May 14. The quarterfinals will take place the next weekend, and the Final Four and championship game are over Memorial Day weekend.
