Maryland men’s and women’s lacrosse teams ranked No. 1 in national polls

By winning last Saturday, the Maryland men’s lacrosse team retained and the women’s team earned the No. 1 spot in this week’s national media polls.

The women move into the top spot after defeating top-ranked North Carolina, and the Tar Heels now drop to No. 2. While the men aren’t alone at the top of the pole, their win over now-No. 6 Yale on Saturday allows them to share the top spot again with Denver, just as they did last week.

Maryland becomes the second school to hold both top spots this year, matching North Carolina, who contained both preseason No. 1 teams. Of course, the tar Heels still hold the upper hand, as both of their teams beat both of Maryland’s teams in national championships last year.

It’s quite the accomplishment to have two No. 1 ranked teams at the same time, but Maryland did this last year as well, when both teams lost in the national championship. They'll be looking to change that this spring.

Both teams are back in action this Saturday, as the women visit Hofstra and the men take on No. 4 Notre Dame in South Bend.
