Fresh off its first national championship in 42 years, Maryland men’s lacrosse will look to do it all over again, as the team just released its schedule for the 2018 season.

“We take immense pride in seeking the best possible competition for both our incredible fans and our student-athletes, and we look forward to testing ourselves against the nation’s best,” head coach John Tillman said in a press release.

The reigning national champions have 13 games on the docket, eight of which will come at home. Their non-conference slate includes notable tilts against Albany, Navy, Notre Dame and North Carolina out west in Costa Mesa, California. The Terps went 4-1 against this group last year, including a quarterfinals win over the Albany Great Danes that propelled them into championship weekend.

The non-conference schedule also includes matchups against Marist, High Point, UPenn and the Villanova Wildcats, one of just three teams to hand Maryland a loss last year.

Conference play will be a wildly entertaining battle, as the Big Ten sent four of its six men’s lacrosse programs to the NCAA tournament. John Tillman and Co. will start conference play with back-to-back away games against Michigan and Penn State, then return home to play Rutgers the following week.

The game to circle on your calendar is April 22, when the Terps take on Ohio State in a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s national championship game, which Maryland took 9-6 under the championship banners at Gillette Stadium. The Terps end their regular season with the 107th installment of “The Rivalry,” as they take on Johns Hopkins up the road in Baltimore.

It’s a rigorous stretch of games, but Tillman has never shied away from competition. Maryland has led the country in RPI the last two seasons, and hopes it can replicate last year’s success for another ride.
