Maryland men’s soccer grabs top seed in NCAA Tournament

As expected.

Matthew Regan

Maryland men’s soccer is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Terps get a bye in the first round and will play the winner of Providence-Delaware on Sunday in College Park. Maryland would get to play at home until the semifinals of the College Cup, which takes place in Houston on Dec. 9 and 11.

Wake Forest is the No. 2 seed, while Clemson is No. 3. View the whole bracket here.

If the Terps win in the second round, they’ll face either 16-seed Kentucky or the winner of Creighton-Tulsa.

Maryland’s season ended in the tournament’s third round last year on a penalty-kicks loss to Clemson. The Terps haven’t suffered a loss since, going undefeated this season with a 18-0-2 record and never giving up their No. 1 ranking after seizing it in late September. Sixth-seeded Denver is the only other team that enters the tournament undefeated.

Maryland has won three national championships: in 2008, 2005 and 1968.
