Former Maryland women’s basketball player Brionna Jones has been named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

In two Connecticut Sun wins last week, Jones averaged 20.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. Last Thursday, she notched a career-high 34 points and seven rebounds in a win over the Indiana Fever. That performance tied the franchise record for points scored in regulation.

The fifth-year player is off to a stellar start this season. Through 18 games, she has increased her scoring average by over four points per game from last season. The Sun are 12-6 and currently sit in first place in the Eastern Conference.

In her four years at Maryland, Jones had incredible success, accumulating team and player accolades along the way. The center led the nation in field goal percentage in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 season. She was named to the Wooden Watch List and the Naismith Watch List in 2016.
