After the No. 2 seed Maryland women’s basketball team defeated No. 15 seed Mount St. Marys in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the Terps are set to face off against No. 7 seed Alabama in the second round today.
Maryland’s 98-45 win on Monday was the largest margin of victory ever in an NCAA Tournament game in program history. The Terps continued their offensive dominance with five players hitting double-digit point totals and matched it with a strong defensive performance. The Terps held the Mountaineers to just four points in the second quarter and 27 total points in the final three-quarters of play on Monday afternoon.
The only prior meeting between the Terps and Crimson Tide came in 2001, with Maryland losing, 71-56. That season was one year prior to Brenda Frese taking over the helm for the Terps.
All the action tips off at 1 p.m on ESPN2.
The Numbers
Maryland: 25-2, 17-1 Big Ten
Alabama: 17-9, 8-8 SEC
