Maryland women’s basketball’s Kaila Charles and men’s lacrosse attacker Jared Bernhardt were named as the Maryland Student-Athletes of the Year Tuesday.

Charles was a key senior leader for head coach Brenda Frese’s squad en route to Big Ten regular season and tournament championships. She averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game to earn All-Big Ten First Team and Third Team All-American selections.

Bernhardt’s senior season was just getting underway before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled all sports, but he still managed to record 20 goals, nine assists and 12 ground balls through six games.
