Maryland women’s basketball senior Kaila Charles was named an Associated Press Third-Team All-American Thursday.
This marks the third season in a row that Charles earned third-team honors — this time while leading the Terps with 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. She ultimately was the light that kept Maryland going during a tough stretch in the middle of the season, and she helped lead the Terps to 17-straight victories and Big Ten titles in the regular season and conference tournament.
Charles stands at No. 6 on the Maryland all-time scoring list with 1,984 points and is No. 9 on the all-time rebounding list with 930 rebounds. She started every game of her career (135), which tied the program record set by Alyssa Thomas.
The 2019-20 season brought a wave of honors for Charles who was also first-team All-Big Ten, a semifinalist for the Citizen Naismith Trophy and was placed on watch lists for the Cheryl Miller Award, the Senior CLASS Award, the Wade Trophy and the Wooden Award.
