No. 7 Maryland women’s basketball announced Thursday that signee Angel Reese is one of five finalists for the Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year award, which is given to the nation’s best player.
Reese, a five-star in the Class of 2020, was named a McDonald’s All-American in January. She is the 24th McDonald’s All-American that head coach Brenda Frese has brought in.
The 6’3 wing will join fellow McDonald’s All-Americans Shakira Austin, Mimi Collins, Ashley Owusu and Diamond Miller at Maryland next season.
The St. Frances Academy senior decided to stay home, committing to Maryland in November 2019. She is the No. 2 overall player in the Class of 2020, according to ESPNW.
The other finalists for the award are Paige Bueckers (Connecticut commit), Kamilla Cardoso (Syracuse commit), Te-Hina Paopao (Oregon commit), and Hailey Van Lith (Louisville commit).
The winner of the Naismith Trophy will be announced on March 10.
