No. 10 Maryland women’s basketball players Ashley Owusu and Kaila Charles took home dual Big Ten weekly honors Monday following stellar performances over the past week.
Senior Kaila Charles was named Big Ten Player of the Week for the second time this season and 12th time in her career. The guard averaged 18 points and 7.3 rebounds over the past week, including her top performance against Indiana in which she put up 21 points and 11 boards.
Freshman Ashley Owusu earned her third Big Ten Freshman of the Week award after averaging 18.3 points during Maryland’s three game stretch. In addition to leading the team in points, Owusu averaged 7.3 assists and shot 19-of-36 from the field (52.7 percent).
Owusu’s best game came against Michigan State on Monday, in which the freshman dropped a career-high 22 points, along with eight assists and six rebounds.
The Terps also moved up in the AP Top 25 Poll Monday, making a three-spot jump from No. 13 to No. 10 after securing three double-digit victories in one week.
