Freshman forward Angel Reese will undergo surgery on her right foot later this week and will be out for approximately 12 weeks, the team announced Friday. Reese suffered a right foot fracture in the home opener against Towson on Thursday night.
In the first three minutes the Baltimore native was limping and committed a foul to stop the game so she could leave the court to be evaluated. After going into the locker room on crutches, she returned to the bench at the end of the first half in a boot still using the crutches.
In her first three games with the Terps, Reese averaged 17 points, 8.7 rebounds and two blocks. Following her explosive debut at the Gulf Coast Showcase, Reese earned All-Tournament team honors as well as the title of Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
With her return estimated for the end of February, Reese is expected to be back on the court in time for tournament play.
