After eight days of waiting, Maryland women’s basketball will continue its season as a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
The Terps will be traveling to Raleigh as a No. 5 seed, and will take on No. 12 seed Princeton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday at noon. The Tigers went 24-5 this season and won the Ivy League regular season and conference tournament crown. Maryland beat Princeton in the second round in 2015 to ruin its undefeated season.
This is the first time Maryland has not hosted the first weekend since 2007.
If Maryland wins, it will take on the winner of No. 4-seed NC State and No. 13-seed Elon in the second round. The Phoenix played in College Park last year but fell to No. 6-seed West Virgina. With two wins, the Terps will most likely play Mississippi State in the Sweet 16. After shocking UConn in the final four last year, the Lady Bulldogs went undefeated in the regular season before losing to South Carolina in the SEC tournament final.
The Terps are 32-14 all-time in the NCAA Tournament under Brenda Frese, and will be looking to snap a recent streak of early exits. Before being upset by Oregon in the Sweet 16 last year, Maryland lost at home to Washington in the second round in 2016.
