Ashley Owusu commits to Maryland women’s basketball: Terps land 5-star 2019 PG

The Class of 2019 is already taking shape.

In an offseason that saw several now-former Terps leave the women’s basketball program, that pendulum is starting to swing back in the right direction for Brenda Frese and company, as they’re on the board in the Class of 2019 with five-star point guard Ashley Owusu.

Out of Paul VI Catholic in Virginia, Owusu is the No. 2 point guard and No. 10 overall prospect in the country. The 5’9 guard won’t be able to sign for more than a year, but clearly felt comfortable enough at this point in her recruiting process to shut it down early.

At Maryland, she’ll overlap with Channise Lewis for two seasons, which should give the Terps some more, and much needed, depth at point guard.

With Owusu on board and Shakira Austin already a member of the 2018 class, that will be four years out of five that Frese has landed a five-star prospect, with the one-player 2017 class as the only exception.
