Maryland women’s basketball offered a 2020 wing named Treasure Hunt

This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

College programs are always on a treasure hunt for talented recruits. Maryland women’s basketball is doing that in the most literal way possible.

Last week, the Terps offered a scholarship to a player from the Class of 2020, which is a common thing to do around this time. That player is a 5’11 wing from Chattanooga, Tennessee. Her name is Treasure Hunt.

Now, everyone has a first name and a last name, but some people are blessed with names. Women’s basketball has a surplus of these. In the Class of 2017, for instance, you’ll find Deauzya Richards, Quanniecia Morrison, LaDazhia Williams, Shalexxus Aaron and Name MVP Unique Thompson—and that’s just the best of the top 100. (We’ll give Maryland signee Channise Lewis an honorable mention.) But there’s something to be said for achieving perfect birth name-surname unity.

We don’t know much about Hunt yet, but that’s fine; she still has three years of high school ball left. She’s on ESPN’s list of 2020 prospects, but those names haven’t been ranked. She’s probably a couple years away from announcing her college decision, and it’s tough to say how the Terps will ultimately factor into the picture.

Hunt should be a treasured addition wherever she ends up, but would continue a wonderful Maryland basketball trend.
