As time wound down in the first half of Maryland women’s basketball’s second-round matchup with West Virginia in the NCAA Tournament, Destiny Slocum threw up a prayer. She heaved the ball over her head with both hands, like a soccer inbounds pass.
Except this was a basketball shot, and it went in the hoop.

She threw this thing from about 10 feet in front of our seats. It was absolutely insane. Slocum has a penchant for hitting crazy shots from long range, but this tops all of that.
The heave gave Maryland a 38-24 halftime lead. The No. 3-seed Terps outscored West Virginia 26-8 in the second quarter. Maryland would eventually win 83-56.
