Maryland football announced on Wednesday that running back Tayon Fleet-Davis is a preseason candidate for the 2021 Doak Walker Award which honors the nation’s best collegiate running back.
Fleet-Davis is entering his fifth year with the Terps after appearing in one game in 2020. The Oxon, Hill, Maryland native rushed for 23 yards on nine carries and had one 17-yard reception.
In his junior season, Fleet-Davis appeared in 10 games and had 63 carries for 265 rushing yards. He also had 15 receptions for 181 yards and four touchdowns in 2019.
Fleet-Davis is the first Terp to be on the watch list since Anthony McFarland Jr. was ahead of the 2019 season.
With this nomination, Fleet-Davis is the second Terp named to a major watch list this offseason with his announcement coming just a few days after quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa was named to the Maxwell Award watch list.
