Crowded tailgates filled the University of Maryland campus in advance of the Terps’ highly anticipated Friday night duel with Penn State Sept. 27 last season, for which the team had its first sellout in recent years.
Night games have been a rarity for Maryland football in recent years, but the conference announced Monday that the team will be playing its first two contests of 2020 — at Northwestern and against Minnesota — at 7:30 p.m.
The Terps’ opening contest against the Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 24 will air on Big Ten Network, followed by a primetime Friday night matchup versus the Golden Gophers, set to air on ESPN, the following week.
While Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium will only have cardboard cutouts in its stands this season, with on campus tailgating also off limits, the program gets the opportunity to redeem itself in the Oct. 30 homecoming matchup.
With no on-campus pregame festivities, Maryland announced the “Terrapin Tailgate Show” will air live online one hour prior to kickoff against Minnesota. The show will include a game preview, UMD President Darryll Pines’ announcement of the Spirit of Maryland Award winners and the Terps’ entrance onto the field.
