After getting blown out by Temple last week, Maryland football looks to right the ship in its Big Ten opener against undefeated Minnesota.
One of the few bright spots last week was Anthony McFarland, who rushed for 107 yards in the 35-14 loss. Minnesota has a top-10 rush defense, allowing 72 rushing yards and 9 points per game in victories over New Mexico State, Fresno State and Miami (Ohio). This will present a challenge to the Terps’ deepest position, and Maryland will need a very well-rounded offensive performance if they want to have a chance against the Gophers.
The Terps are facing Minnesota for the third consecutive season. Last year, Ty Johnson’s late 34-yard touchdown run gave Maryland a 31-24 win in Minneapolis. A Maryland victory would put the team at 3-1 and give the Terps some momentum heading into the bye week, before a big matchup with No. 19 Michigan on October 6.
The numbers
Maryland: 2-1 (0-0 Big Ten)
Minnesota: 3-0 (0-0 Big Ten)
All-time series: Maryland leads 2-1
