Food review: Maryland Stadium’s chicken and waffles

They were surprisingly delicious, folks.

Jared Goldstein/Testudo Times

The first half of the Maryland-Temple game wasn’t all that exciting, but a pregame meal of chicken and waffles made everything okay ... kinda.

Earlier this week, Maryland announced that a concession stand behind section 14 would be selling the flavorful dish starting with the Terps’ Week 3 game against Temple.

Frankly, I didn’t expect much. Maryland Stadium isn’t exactly known for its food selection, and this seemed like a situation where dining services may be trying too hard.

I was wrong.

The chicken and waffles were actually good—a solid 7.5 out of 10. Even though it was very clearly dining hall chicken strips on top of a dining hall waffle with what was supposed to be powdered sugar, it was an enjoyable experience.

The Maryland ‘M’ in the center of the waffle was a nice touch and provided a great natural area for the syrup to collect itself. The chicken, though not completely breaded, was good enough. The syrup and powdered sugar added enough flavor to complete the meal.

The media are fortunate to have the press box catered, often with Chick-fil-A boxes, so normally heading elsewhere for food is futile. Saturday, it was worth it.
