Maryland football starts its 2018 season on Sept. 1 against Texas in a rematch of last year’s 51-41 Terps win at Darrell K. Royal Stadium in Austin. The sequel will take place at Fedex Field in Landover, Maryland, at noon on FS1.
The backdrop of this game is Maryland’s ongoing turmoil in the wake of Jordan McNair’s death. You can find all of our coverage of that right here.
While we wait for multiple investigations into the Terps football program to conclude, Matt Canada is the interim head coach for Saturday’s matchup. Across the field from him will be Tom Herman in his Year 2 debut for the Longhorns.
You can bet Texas won’t be taking the Terps lightly this time around, and the ‘Horns have scary talent. Of course, talent has never been the issue in Austin. Even when recruiting went well, Charlie Strong couldn’t put together enough wins to meet the kind of expectations you get at Texas. After going 7-6 in Year 1, Herman doesn’t have the Longhorns nearly back to the top of the college football mountain, but a top-five recruiting class and tremendous coaching pedigree project very good things.
