After a rough week in which Maryland football was shut out by No. 18 Iowa, the Terps look to grab a victory as they meet Illinois for the first time.
The Terps’ offense struggled mightily against the Hawkeyes, managing only 115 total yards in just under 20 minutes of possession. Fortunately for Maryland, Illinois’ defense is the exact opposite of Iowa. The Fighting Illini have the second-worst defense in the Big Ten, allowing 34 points per game, just above Rutgers. Where Illinois excels is its rushing attack, averaging 226.1 yards per game; the Terps must stop running backs Reggie Corbin and Mike Epstein to slow the Illini offense.
A Maryland victory would put the Terps one win away from clinching a bowl berth. A difficult November looms, however, and there is a chance that Maryland will not be favored to win a game the rest of the season.
The numbers
Maryland: 4-3 (2-2 Big Ten)
Illinois: 3-4 (1-3 Big Ten)
