Maryland’s next step after a 42-21 loss to Michigan at the Big House? Well, that’d be a home game against what’s been the worst Power 5 team in the country this season: the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers has been bad this season in about every conceivable way. The Scarlet Knights were victorious over Texas State in Week 1, and have lost every game since. One of those games was a one-score loss to Indiana. Every other trip onto the field has resulted in a three-touchdown loss or worse. Against Ohio State, sure. But also against Illinois.
That’s the kind of tonic Maryland needs right now. The Terps are huge favorites. Like, seriously huge. They haven’t been favored by this many points against a Power 5 team since 2003. That doesn’t guarantee anything, but it’s a good sign for a Maryland team that needs a win.
And of course, never forget these teams once discussed having a rivalry trophy.
The backdrop here, as with every game this season, is that we’re all waiting for the University System of Maryland’s Board of Regents to get back about the investigation into DJ Durkin and the rest of the football program. You can find all the info we have about that here. Maybe those findings will be revealed this week? Maybe next week? We really don’t know.
