Recapping Specialists Week at Testudo Times

The final installment of our summer-long positional previews.

We’ve actually done it. Our 10 weeks of delving into each and every one of Maryland football’s position groups have come to an end. It was an incredible ride.

The idea started months ago, came to life in early June and was a constant presence during the slow summer months. Some weeks were busier than others, and some features came and went, but we feel like we presented a thorough preview of each group. If you’ve been following along all summer, we can’t thank you enough.

If you missed anything from this week, here it is again.

Profiles in Terpage

Monday: RS senior kicker Adam Greene
Tuesday: Sophomore punter Wade Lees
Wednesday: Sophomore kicker Mike Shinsky
Thursday: Senior K/P Danny Sutton

A closer look

Monday: Welcome to Specialists Week
The Terps have returning faces, but they’ll need some improvement as well.

Friday: Maryland enters 2017 with 2 experienced long snappers
Nate Adams and Matt Oliveira were regular starters in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Who will earn the job for this season?

Saturday: Maryland will use a committee of kick and punt returners in 2017
With a lot of inexperience in this area, the Terps have several options.

Polls

Wednesday: Who’s the best kicker in Maryland history?
Nick Novak takes care of Brad Craddock and Jess Atkinson to win with 68 percent of the vote.

Thursday: Who’s the best punter in Maryland history?
Brooks Barnard and Adam Podlesh were neck-and-neck all week, but Barnard comes out on top.

Sunday: Who’s the best return man in Maryland history?
Steve Suter wins the popular vote over a field that includes a variety of decorated kick and punt returners.

Even with position weeks over, we’ll keep previewing the season throughout the rest of fall camp. It’s also almost time to ramp up the coverage of Maryland’s other fall teams again. Stay tuned!
