Profiles in Terpage is back for 2017. Last week, we focused on the safeties; this week, we’re looking at the special teams.

Danny Sutton, K/P, No. 97

Height: 6'0
Weight: 185 lbs.
Year: Senior
Hometown: New Hope, Pennsylvania
High School: New Hope Solebury

How he got to College Park

Sutton spent his freshman season in 2014 playing for Towson, but transferred to Maryland after not playing that year. In 2015, he was forced to sit out the entire season due to the NCAA’s transfer rules. Finally, Sutton played in his first game last year, taking over as Maryland’s primary kickoff specialist in October. However, while he’s a kicker, Sutton has never attempted a field goal after being far down on the kicking depth chart last season.

Career highlight

Last season, Sutton took 37 kickoffs from Oct. 1 on, averaging 58.9 yards per kickoff and totaling seven touchbacks. He lead the team in kickoffs and kickoff yardage.

2017 prospectus

Sutton will probably enter the season as Maryland’s kickoff specialist after finishing strong in that area in 2016. However, he still seems stuck behind Adam Greene and Mike Shinsky on the depth chart, so the chances of him getting consistent field goal tries are slim. He will also probably serve as punter Wade Lees’ primary backup.

Dream season

Sutton excels as the kickoff specialist, making it hard on each opponent to get good field position and once again leading the team in kickoff yardage. He’s ready when called upon to either kick or punt, making a few field goals when the Terps need him to.

Aaaaand the guessing games are over. Congrats to say_al for taking the title with 12 correct guesses. Scaletta takes the silver with 10. Murderlandboy and TerpDonkey split the bronze with five. Thanks to everyone who made this a part of their life during the summer.
