Profiles in Terpage is back for 2017. Last week, we focused on the linebackers; this week, we’re venturing into the secondary with Cornerbacks Week.

Kenny Bennett, DB, No. 26

Height: 6’2
Weight: 201 pounds
Year: Freshman
Hometown: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
High school: Academy at Palumbo

How he got to College Park

Bennett was a three-star recruit this past year, ranked 98th among cornerbacks in the class. He spent his high school seasons at Simon Gratz High and the Academy at Palumbo, and concluded his career with 27 tackles and three interceptions in 2016. Bennett, who has played both cornerback and safety, committed via homemade video in November.

2017 prospectus

Bennett has an uphill road ahead if he wants to get significant playing time this season. With a crowded and competitive Maryland secondary, he will have to stand out to earn playing time, which will be tough with him having the least experience with the team. If he plays, it should mostly be on special teams and as a depth cornerback as long as everyone is healthy.

Dream season

Bennett excels on special teams, proving to the coaching staff his ability to adapt. He mainly plays on defense during garbage time, but impresses when he’s called upon, slowly earning more playing time. Finally, Bennett finishes the year strong, ready to compete for a more consistent role in 2018.
