Earlier this offseason, Maryland linebacker Melvin Keihn decided to give his mom a surprise gift. After leaving Liberia when he was 8 years old, Keihn was able to go visit his mother for the first time in 14 years. A crew from Big Ten Network was there to capture the encounter, and Keihn’s story will air in the fall as part of the network’s “BTN Original” series.
A preview for the package was released in the midst of Big Ten Media Days.

When the Baltimore Sun talked to Keihn about his plans, he predicted his mom would cry when she saw him. At least from the preview, it appears he called it right.

Big Ten Media Days are officially underway in Chicago. With Day One done, here are some overall notes:
- Teams can schedule FCS teams again, but only if they play just four of their nine conference games at home.
- Ohio State’s Urban Meyer compared Penn State’s Saquon Barkley to NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Ezekiel Elliott.
- Conference commissioner Jim Delany is about to make $20 million in bonuses. He’s also staunchly against paying the players.
Coach DJ Durkin took the podium at Media Days, later doing another interview, as well, about the state of the team and recruiting. Jermaine Carter Jr., D.J. Moore and a fidget spinner-wielding Ty Johnson were also on hand for interviews.
We kicked off Cornerbacks Week yesterday, a position with a solid amount of bodies, but a lack of experience.
JC Jackson was considered an elite recruit out of high school before being sidetracked. Now, he has a chance to lead the Terps’ secondary and start to live up to his former acclaim.
Major League Soccer released its team of top performers for Week 20 of the season, and former Terp Alex Crognale made the cut. The former All-American is currently suiting up as a defender for the Columbus Crew SC.
