Profiles in Terpage is back for 2017. Last week, we focused on the offensive line; this week, we’re flipping sides of the ball and looking at the defensive line.

Dion Goldbourne, DE, No. 55

Height: 6’4
Weight: 208 pounds*
Year: Redshirt freshman
Hometown: Delray Beach, Florida
High School: Atlantic Community High School

*Editor’s note: Goldbourne’s listed weight on the team’s site hasn’t changed from last year. He’s most likely bulked up since then.

How he got to College Park

After choosing to play football over basketball, Goldbourne was recruited as a two-star prospect in the class of 2016. He committed to Maryland along with his high school teammate, defensive back Antwaine Richardson.

Career highlight

Goldbourne didn’t play a game in his freshman season, but his high school highlights are encouraging for his future.

2017 prospectus

Having yet to play a game and being a part of a crowded position, it’s tough to project exactly how Goldbourne fits into the defense. He is most likely going to fight for a spot in the defensive line rotation, but he will need to prove himself to earn a consistent spot every game.

Dream season

Goldbourne impresses the coaching staff, earning the chance to play on both defense and special teams. While he doesn’t become a go-to player on the defensive line, he still is able to slowly climb his way up the depth chart, ultimately getting playing time in big situations at the end of the season.

Up next

This player was the first public high school football player from Maryland to be selected to the Under Armour All American game.
