Sean Nelson brings a lot of potential to Maryland football

Profiles in Terpage continues with another freshman wide receiver from Georgia.

Profiles in Terpage is back for 2017. Last week, we focused on running backs; this week, we’re looking at all of Maryland’s receivers.

Sean Nelson, WR

Height: 6’0
Weight: 178
Year: Freshman
Hometown: Fairburn, Georgia
High School: Langston Hughes High School

How he got to College Park

Nelson committed to Maryland on May 7, 2016, choosing the Terps over Virginia Tech, Minnesota and others. He was a three-star recruit and the No. 93 wide receiver in the country, per the 247Sports Composite. Nelson is also one of four freshman wide receivers from the state of Georgia, joining Jalen Browder, Carlos Carriere and Jayden Comma.

2017 prospectus

Nelson’s highlight video shows he has a lot of potential, as he looks like he can outrun defensive backs as well as catch jump balls. He will have to adjust to the college level though, as he’ll be playing against smarter players and better athletes. He may not contribute right away, but has a shot to be a playmaker down the road.

Dream season

Nelson quickly moves up the depth chart during summer practice and breaks through Maryland’s crowded receiving corps. He also becomes a big contributor on special teams, using his speed to prevent returners from ripping off long gains.
