Will Likely’s invite to the 2017 NFL Draft Combine was reported months ago, and with the full invite lists out Wednesday, it’s confirmed he’s the only Maryland football player invited.
Likely’s an obvious selection. Even if he’s not recovered from his torn ACL yet, he’ll still be able to do interviews with NFL teams. He provides upside as a kick returner, and coaches will want to know how his rehab is going. Besides Likely, Maryland left tackle Michael Dunn is the next-best candidate to get drafted. Cornerback Alvin Hill and wide receivers Teldrick Morgan and Levern Jacobs will all probably receive some sort of attention, though it’s unclear what their chances are. We’ll find out more about that as the draft gets closer.
Likely is rated as the No. 33 corner in the draft by CBS Sports, which has him as either a seventh-rounder or an undrafted free agent. This ranking is certainly down from what it would have been had the cornerback not torn his ACL, but coming back from that injury isn’t an easy thing to do. Dunn also appears on CBS’s rankings as a potential seventh-round pick or undrafted free agent.
