Maryland football’s game time vs. Northwestern announced

This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

Maryland football will play Northwestern at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 on Oct. 14, the program announced Monday afternoon.

It’s the Big Ten home opener for the Terps and the first meeting all-time between Maryland (3-1, 1-0) and Northwestern (2-2, 0-1). The Terps are coming off a big 31-24 road win in the conference opener in Minnesota, while the Wildcats gave Wisconsin quite the battle on Saturday, ultimately losing 33-24.

Maryland will travel to play No. 10 Ohio State in Columbus this weekend, while Northwestern will host No. 4 Penn State.

This also appears to be Maryland’s official blackout game, so make sure to wear black if you’re attending the game. The Terps won last year’s blackout game against Michigan State, though that one was actually at night.

In other news

Maryland men’s basketball hosted three official visitors this past weekend: five-star point guard Devon Dotson, five-star wing Keldon Johnson and four-star combo guard Eric Ayala. Each visit went well, and the Terps are squarely in play for all three. Four-star point guard Andrew Nembhard committed to Florida Monday night, which prompted Dotson to take the Gators, previously thought to be the favorite, out of consideration. Ayala is scheduled to visit Oregon this weekend, while Dotson and Johnson are finished with their visits. No commitment is imminent, but it’s reasonable to expect decisions in the next week or so.

Maryland men’s soccer remained undefeated last night in a loser-keeps-Randy-Edsall matchup against UConn, beating the Huskies 3-2.

Three-star defensive Western Branch (Va.) tackle Jalen Alexander is scheduled to announce his college commitment on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in his high school auditorium. The Terps are the Crystal Ball favorite, and they’re also who I’d pick to land Alexander if I had the power.

After an improbable win on the road against Minnesota, the Terps go on the road for the second straight week, this time to play No. 10 Ohio State—but beating the Buckeyes at “The Shoe” is a whole different animal.

With that win over Minnesota, the Terps are now the Kings of the North in this Reddit College Football Imperialism map. Maryland is No. 3 in total square mileage and No. 2 in number of counties seized. This week’s game against Ohio State is effectively the Battle for New York City.
