Maryland football starts its season in 39 days. Until then, we're profiling every player on the roster in our Profiles in Terpage series.
Elijah Daniels, cornerback
Height: 6’0
Weight: 186 pounds
Year: Freshman
High school: Cardinal Gibbons (Fla.)
Jersey number: 12
How Daniels got to College Park
Much like his brother, relatively suddenly.
Both Daniels twins, Elijah and his brother Elisha, committed to Maryland in late January. They were among the first positive results of DJ Durkin's enthusiastic push for Floridian talent, which started literally within hours of Durkin taking the Maryland head coaching job at the beginning of December.
We’ve got highlights!
Daniels enjoys hitting. That will serve him well in the Big Ten, one would imagine.
2016 prospectus
Maryland has a pretty big hole at safety entering the season. Last year's starters, A.J. Hendy and Anthony Nixon, are both gone. That'll mean two new players back there, and while it seems highly likely that one will be converted cornerback Josh Woods, the identity of the other safety is highly unsettled. (I think it might be Denzel Conyers, but that's nothing much more than conjecture.)
Anyhow, this means there might be an opening for Daniels to find playing time as a freshman. It's just tough to say.
What a dream season would look like
Daniels gets a starting spot and plays every game as a true freshman. He solidifies his place as a stalwart in Maryland's secondary and stays there for three years, destroying many wide receivers in the process.
The next player in this series ...
... has been in the program for a year, and now he's eligible. He could be pretty good, too.
