Maryland football could end up playing Minnesota on ABC

Or ESPN2. Or ESPNU.

The Maryland football team’s game against Minnesota on Oct. 15 will be televised on ABC, ESPN2 or ESPNU, the school announced Monday.

Maryland’s only played on BTN and CBS Sports Network so far this season, and a game on ABC would reach a considerably larger audience. Whether or not Maryland plays on ABC will depend on how each team plays this weekend, as well as how each of the other teams in this timeslot play. It’s not immediately clear what games Maryland will be up against because many times and channels haven’t been announced yet.

On Saturday, Maryland plays Penn State, while Minnesota takes on Iowa. Minnesota lost at Penn State in overtime this past Saturday, but Golden Gophers remain ranked ahead of the Nittany Lions in the latest AP Poll.

Last week was Minnesota’s first loss of the season, while Maryland crushed Purdue to stay undefeated.

Maryland is No. 40 in Bill Connelly’s latest S&P+ rankings, while Minnesota is No. 44 and Penn State is No. 38.
